How to stop a prisoner from committing suicide

The suicide of a corrections officer at a Texas correctional facility is under investigation after her suicide note was discovered on a desk, authorities said Thursday.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) said in a statement that an inmate at the Newberry Correctional Facility died Sunday.

The TDCJ said a prison guard discovered a suicide note on a prisoner’s desk.

She was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

A TDCj investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The note in question reads, “I am sorry for not being able to keep you safe at Newberry, Texas.”TDCj officials did not provide additional details about the suicide.

Newberry is the third Texas correctional facilities to be rocked by a suicide.

In September, inmate Dinae Smith-Meyer committed suicide at the Otisville Correctional Facility in Oklahoma.

Her death was ruled a suicide by police.

In August, inmate Kelli Smith-Savage, also at OtisVILLE, killed herself.
