Texas truck driver convicted of killing infant in cab

The Texas trucker who killed an infant in a cab on the way to a hospital was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday for the death of the infant.

The judge ordered Robert Lee Wilson, 39, to serve five years in the state’s maximum-security Angola Prison.

Prosecutors said Wilson had driven the baby into a ditch on May 7, 2014.

He had stopped at the roadside to pick up a bag of groceries for the infant’s grandmother, who was also on the truck.

Wilson then allegedly drove away in the truck and crashed into the baby’s truck, killing him.

Prosecutors say Wilson had been driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.17 percent.

Wilson was convicted of child abuse and neglect of a dependent, but his sentencing was delayed by a jury, which deliberated for more than two weeks before reaching its decision.

Wilson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February, but prosecutors said he had a history of alcohol abuse.
